Die School of Zuversicht besetzt den Aktualisierungsraum mit  
Wandteppich,  Diskokugel und Schnaps: eine Band setzt  Historie und  
Geschichten, Mythen und Randnotizen zu einer Musiklandkarte auf  
Weltniveau zusammen.

Auf 2 x 4,03 Metern verteilen sich Entwicklungslinien von Debussy bis  
Underground Resistance, denn nie tritt eine Vision  aus dem Nichts,  
nie bleibt eine Tradition statisch. Musikgeschichte ist sowas von  
Arbeit. Ein Patchwork aus Stoffen, Musikstilen, Instrumenten und  
Versatzstücken musikalischer Utopien.

Auf dieser Ideenwanderungskarte blickt Sun Ra  in Richtung „Space is  
the Place“,  Count Ossies dreht am Glücksrad der Buru Trommeln, im  
Pazifik taucht Marge, die Housekrake mit Armen aus Chicago, Detroit  
und Paris auf. Hier finden sich Reflexionen unterschiedlicher  
Traditionen, produktive Missverständnisse und  Bezugnahmen auf  
fiktive Orte. School of Zuversichts kognitive Karte liefert eine  
präzise Beschreibung ihrer musikalischen Subjektivität, eine  
Anthologie fanhafter Willkürlichkeit.

Der Aktualisierungsraum

Der Aktualisierungsraum ist ein nicht-kommerzielles Kunst- und  
Ausstellungsprojekt in Hamburg, initiiert von Nina Koeller (Berlin)  
und Kerstin Stakemeier (Hamburg). Er handelt von der Gegenwart  
derjenigen Vergangenheit, die unabgeschlossen blieb und blickt  
zurueck aus einem bestimmten Interesse: die Vergangenheit soll nicht  
an die Gegenwart verloren gegeben werden. Stattdessen werden  
Fragmente der Vergangenheit im Raum aktualisiert.

Ueber einen Zeitraum von zwoelf Monaten werden zwoelf KuenstlerInnen,  
KuenstlerInnengruppen, MusikerInnen und andere ProduzentInnen  
eingeladen, je für einen Monat eine Aktualisierung zu realisieren.  
Geplant sind unter anderem Projekte mit Nine Budde (Berlin), Melvin  
Moti (Rotterdam), School of Zuversicht (Hamburg), Ben Watson und  
Thomas Baldischwyler (London/Hamburg), Ginger Brooks Takahashi,  
Ulrike Mueller (New York), Katrin Bahrs, Ruth May, Susanne Winterling  
(Hamburg/Berlin), sowie Alexandra Bircken, Nicole Wermers (Koeln/ 
Hamburg/London).

In jedem Monat wird zu dem jeweiligen Projekt ein eintaegiger  
Workshop stattfinden, der das politische und kuenstlerische  
Produktionsumfeld des Aktualisierten und der Aktualisierung, der  
Historie und der Gegenwart, aufarbeitet. Beide werden im Archiv  
dokumentiert und miteinander verbunden. Neue rote Faeden sollen durch  
die (Kunst)Geschichte gesponnen werden. An der Universitaet Lueneburg  
findet ein projektbegleitendes Seminar mit StudentInnen der  
Kulturwissenschaft statt, in dem gemeinsam weitere Aktualisierungen  
erarbeitet und ausgefuehrt werden.

Der Aktualisierungsraum wird gefoerdert durch die Stiftung Kunstfonds  
und die Hamburgische Kulturstiftung.

The School of Zuversicht enters the Space for Actualisation with  
tapestry, mirror ball and schnaps: a band puts together histories,  
myths and liner notes to form a musical map of global scale.

On 2 x 4,03 meters directions of development are distributed from  
Debussy to Underground Resistance, because never has a vision  
developed out of nothing, never has a tradition remained static: A  
patchwork of textiles, musical styles, instruments and fragments of  
musical utopias.

On this map of musical migrations Sun Ra focuses his gaze towards  
„Space is the Place“, Count Ossies spins the Buru drums’ wheel of  
fortune, in the Pacific Ocean Marge, the house-octopus surfaces, with  
arms from Chicago, Detroit and Paris. What s on display here are  
reflections of differing traditions, productive misunderstandings and  
relation to fictitious places. School of Zuversicht’s cognitive map  
delivers a precise description of their musical subjectivity, an  
anthology of fan-like arbitrariness.

The Space for Actualisation

The Space for Actualisation is a non-commercial art- and exhibition  
project in Hamburg, initiated by Nina Koeller (Berlin) and Kerstin  
Stakemeier (Hamburg). It deals with the present of that past, which  
remained unfulfilled, and looks back onto it with one specific  
interest: to not allow the loss of the past to the present. Instead  
fragments of the past will be actualised in the space itself.

Over a time-span of twelve months, twelve artists, artist-groups,  
musicians and other producers are invited to, each for one month,  
realise an actualisation. A fragment is dissected from its role in  
historicity – an artwork, an invention, an event, a song – to pull it  
into the present, to find out what the consequences of its  
actualisation are.

Projects are planned with Nine Budde (Berlin), Melvin Moti  
(Rotterdam), School of Zuversicht (Hamburg), Ginger Brooks Takahashi,  
Ulrike Mueller (New York), Ben Watson and Thomas Baldischwyler  
(London/Hamburg), Katrin Bahrs, Ruth May, Susanne Winterling (Hamburg/ 
Berlin), Alexandra Bircken and Nicole Wermers (Cologne/Hamburg/ 
London) and others.

In each month a one-day workshop will be held which deals with the  
political and artistic setting of the production of both, the  
actualised and the actualisation. History and present here are  
enfolded to be both documented and newly connected. New threads are  
mapped out in (art)history. At the cultural studies department of the  
University of Lueneburg a seminar will be held which accompanies the  
project, in which a wider range of actualisations is to be worked out  
and realised.
