Hringurinn

The base for this work is the documentary Hringurinn from the Icelandic
filmmaker Fridrik Thor Fridriksson. In the year 1985 Fridrik Thor documented
his trip along the Hringvegur – also known as the Ring Road - by fixing a
camera on the roof of his car. The release was connected to the mileage counter
and every 12 meter one frame was captured. The result is a documentary of 80
minutes of the Hringvegur around Iceland in autumn.

Hringurinn II

Philipp Bergmeister will follow the Hringurinn from Fridrik Thor Fridriksson and
document the changes of the road.

He will exactly start at the same point like Fridrik Thor having his documentary
displayed in the car. Every 12 meter of way the next frame of the movie will be
shown.

There where the road changed a lot a screen will be installed next to it and the
old part of this section will be projected. With the fall of the night, the new
road will hide and the old road of 1985 will become visible.

Compare yourself – what are the remarkable changes over the past 23 years: the
road itself, the landscape surrounding it, new houses and buildings, the
season, the actual weather or the light conditions?

Screenings

Exact time and place of the installations can’t be announced in advance. The
Icelandic Weather determines the speed of the trip and if it’s possible to
install a screen. Actual sunset will make a projection possible around 10 p.m.
